From Penticton, find Green Mountain Road then turn on Apex Mountain Road. Just passed the resort, turn right on Hedley Nickel Plate Road and continue to the Nordic ski trails at the 18-kilometer marker. Our trek started on Winters Creek Road. We made our way to Eagle's Nest Trail and at the far end of Upper Meadow Loop, 871732, we beelined towards Apex Mountain's north-west ridge. The ridge grants a pleasant walk to the summit. We descended the south-west slopes to a service road that brought us back onto Winters Creek Road.
Note: Hiking within the boundaries of the ski resort is prohibited.

winters creek road

We started our hike on Winters Creek Road.
Hike: RT 5.5; 2.5 up. This objective is short and sweet, which is exactly what we needed to allow a late start and driving back home at a reasonable time. This was our second objective this weekend, we didn't mind that it was an easy walk. Although the weather wasn't stellar, it didn't rain and firm snow granted pleasant travel. Following Nordic ski trails simplified this outing; with minimal effort, we gained the ridge with the summit in sight. The ridge walk is delightful but far too short. Once at the top, we took shelter next to a building where we stayed for quite some time. From there, we had a good view of Cathedral Provincial Park and Snowy Mountain Protected Area; Milan expressed his wish to ascend Snowy Mountain next. We decided to do a loop and return a different way, this worked out nicely. This casual hike was enjoyable, we even got to soak in a bit of sunshine when we arrived at the truck!
