On our way to Bow Hut. |
Ski mountaineering: After
having a pancake breakfast at Bow Hut, Fab and I started preparing for
an attempt on Saint Nich. We roped up and traveled up the glacier,
circling the west flank of the imposing mountain to its southern
col. The objective is not very far from there but it is more
exposed. We left our skis but remained roped up. The summit ridge is
sheer on the west side and the east side consists of steep snow slopes.
The final pitch to the summit is steep; a well anchored hip belay was
enough to give me the confidence to make it up and down that section. |
