Merioneth Peak

elevation: 2,683 m. height gain: 130 m. (from Harlech Peak)
area: Radium,BC map 82 K/9-10

Via Welsh Lakes. Ref: Aaron Cameron and Matt Gunn's Hikes around Invermere & the Columbia River Valley.
Just before reaching the first, lower lake, a cairn indicates a faint trail that shortcuts to Aberystwyth Lake, the fourth of the Welsh Lakes. We aimed for the north-east end of the lake and continued towards the Glamorgan/Harlech Col. The summit of Harlech Peak is easily reached. Continue north along the connecting ridge, Merioneth Peak is a short distance away.
scrambling down from harlech
Scrambling down from Harlech Peak.
Scramble: RT 9.25 (including Harlech Peak); 0.5 up from Harlech Peak. Merioneth Peak is the most northerly of the Welsh Peaks; traversing to this summit is a must, it is only half an hour from Harlech Peak. The extension is easy and grants fine views of the Irish Peaks to the south-east and the Scotch Peaks to the north-west. The top is slightly higher than Harlech Peak and it is dotted by a big cairn. We extended our summit stay when it became apparent that we would not attempt Glamorgan Peak. We figured we needed a full day to allow time for route finding and unknown challenges. We enjoyed the splendor of the area so much that we were already making plans to return the following weekend! nice ridge walk
