About to start
climbing. |
Ski mountaineering: RT 8.0. Our friend Wess came along, we
managed an early start, 6 AM, from Num-Ti-Jah Lodge. The weather
started out nice with high clouds but the sky soon covered. We planned
this trip because snow conditions were right and the snowpack was
relatively stable. This is a major concern as there is a section before
the col ascending a ramp in a very exposed position. Triggering an
avalanche could carry us over the high cliffs. We almost skied
right up to the top. The summit view was
diminished by low clouds, we still took the time to enjoy the feat and
drink some tea. Fab was feeling sick, he was pleased this ascent was
done; he wanted to leave. The ski back down the col was great, the
traverse took very little time. We were down on the flats slightly
after the noon hour. |
