introduced
me to a climber friend of his, Wesley. Our first outing was
interesting, conversation was minimal and awkward. Nonetheless we both
really liked trekking in the mountains and we shared the same immediate
goal: scramble up The Fortress. The fast pace was welcome and soon we
reached the upper Headwall Lake. I marveled at the very
scenic surroundings. We ascended steepish snow and scree to
the
top. The view is phenomenal; we stayed a while to soak it in... We came
down Chester Lake side to execute a loop and visit another valley, as
mentioned in Kane's book. The lingering snow below the col
offered
a great glissade. WOW, such a wonderful, fun filled
day. The walk back to the trailhead was casual, we stopped several
times and talked about Fortress and "the next one"... |
